Two-Phase Renovation Re-Positions San Juan InterContinental with Modern Appeal
Intended to uplift the hotel as a preferred destination for tourists and group business travelers alike, InterContinental Hotels Group has completed a two-phase renovation program for its InterContinental San Juan hotel.
The renovation included upgrades to 398 guestrooms and suites (completed during its first phase in 2012), and a complete re-imagination of public spaces in 2013—all while the hotel remained in operation. The second phase of the project was designed and constructed in just ten months, concluding in Dec. 2013.
The Hardy Group project managed the renovation, led by Peter K. Speth, senior project director. Together with design firm Edge of Architecture, architect Arquiteg, and contractor QB Construction, the Hardy Group facilitated the project from the initial due diligence assessment through completion.
With the most extensive renovations occurring on the building’s exterior and lobby lounge interior, the InterContinental San Juan property was refreshed to celebrate the beaches of San Juan with a soft palette of colors. Improvements to the hotel’s revenue-generating socialization zones included an indoor/outdoor bar with a firepit.
